How do we grow thin films and artificially layered S/F structures?

The samples are deposited by a 3-sources UHV magnetron sputtering system. It is equipped with a load-lock chamber and a movable substrate holder which allows to fabricate 9 different samples in a single deposition run.

The superconducting properties are investigated by transport measurements. Transport properties [R(T), R(H), I(V)] can be performed in presence of magnetic field up to 11 Tesla. A rotatable insert can be used (down to 1.8 K) in order to vary the angle between the magnetic field and the sample. Temperatures down to 300 mK can be reached in sorption pumped 3He Heliox cryostats from Oxford Instruments.

A cryogen-free cryostat from Cryogenics can be used to perform transport measurements down to 300 mK in presence of magnetic fields up to 7 Tesla
